Knitting

Its that time of year again . . . MUD Season!

We went to the part today in Wakefield (on our way to REI) and there were actually other kids to play with! He had a ball and the baby even had fun in the baby swing . . .until it started getting cold and cloudy.

We also went to REI to look for a “Dog Tent” to use as a play tent . . . I bought a play tent the other day but it was total crap so it went back . . . the dog tent looks pretty good and may hold up better . . . but it wasn’t in stock so we will be ordering online . . . though waiting till next week since they are sending a 20% off coupon out this week! Yeah! cheaper tent!

Now that we are home he insisted he wanted to play outside . . . and the baby is napping so I am able to steal a few minutes on the computer . . . though I’m going to have my work cut out for me cleaning up him and everything he comes in contact with when he does come in in a few minutes!

Knitting

You know its cold outside . . .

when you take that fresh skein of handspun out to whirl it over your head, after setting the twist, to remove the water and the darn thing freezes. Solid. Like krispy strands of yarn in your hand . . . it even made a crunching sound when squeezed.

It did thaw once it had been in for a few minutes and the yarn was not damaged. This is the same yarn as singles:

Another snow day . . .

Its snowing again . . . we’re already at about 50″ so far this year – in an average year we get something like 20″ total for the year! We’ve had a lot of snow. The nice thing about that is that this is the first winter that Mimmo is likely to remember when he gets older and he’s going to remember having a lot of snow and playing in it.

As I write this he’s been outside in the snow for about an hour. We’ve changed out the first pair of mittens for a dry pair; the first pair were very wet but still doing their job, his hands were nice and warm and dry inside, but they were getting heavy so it was time for new ones. It seems that the time invested in knitting mittens has been well worth it. Nothing warms a knitters heart on a cold snowy day like seeing the fruits of their labor put to good use!
