Knitting

Spoke too soon!

We went out for story time and errands today . . . and by the time we got home, mid-afternoon, the little guy had another fever!

I haven’t had a chance to knit or to take any photos or much of anything . . . . he’s been put to bed but hasn’t been staying there . . . at this rate it could be a long night . . . perhaps tomorrow will be more productive?

Knitting

Thanks everyone!

Thank you all for the nice emails and comments.  We’re all feeling much better – no fever for a few days now – though we still have a bit of a cough.

Knitting wise I haven’t been getting all that much done but I’ve been working on the Prairie Blanket.  I’d like to have it done before C arrives so I can bring her home in it. . . . I’m about 70% done now but its still slow going.  I’ve made it into a rather large blanket – about 41″ square – in the hope that it will last her through toddlerhood.  I’m almost done with the 3rd 8 oz. hank of yarn and I’ve got a 4th on standby though I think I’ll only need part of it.  I’ll try to take a picture later today if I get a chance.

The little guy and I are hoping to head out to a story reading at the book store a little later this morning and then we’ve some errands to run.  I think we’ll probably grab lunch out instead of cooking today since we are going to be out and we have lots to do so it will likely take us to past lunchtime anyway.

I had hoped to make it to knitting this week (didn’t get there last week, too sick & no sitter) but once again it looks like I’m stuck.  Dom is on a double so he’s no help and our favorite (only) sitter is off on a ski trip. . . . so unless I can persuade Nonna . . . and she doesn’t like to do evenings . . . . it looks like I’m stuck home again this week.  Bummer!

Perhaps I can at least manage a few more rows on the blanket . . .

How not to spend your Birthday . . .

So yesterday was my Birthday, kind of a big one actually, 35 and I had hoped to spend it doing something fun with the guys. Pehaps a museum or the aquarium or something. Yeah, well, that didn’t happen.

I’ve had a bit of a cold for a while now and had developed a cough which sounds rather nasty. I mentioned it while at the Drs on Monday and she listened to my lungs, just be be sure they were clear. They are and she suggested that it is probably a bronchial infection and likely viral. However, she also asked if I’d had a fever at all. I hadn’t so that was fine.

Well, by late afternoon on Monday I started feeling a lot worse, achy and cold and like I was really coming down with something. I took a benedryl and went to bed early. During the night I woke several times with severe chills – the kind that make your entire body shake and welll as all the other reasons that I end up awake at night and I didnt’ really get much sleep. Not long after breakfast it occurred to me that I might have a temp and sure enough, 101.1 I called the Drs office and left a message for the nurse . . . . she called back and I told her how I was feeling and what my temp was – she asked things like if the baby was moving (yes, but not as much as usual) and had I taken anything (no, my brain was too foggy to think of that!) and then she said she’d talk to a Dr and call me back. A few minutes later she called back and said they wanted me to come in and be checked out. I was to report to the ob admitting! And she asked how far away we live and how soon we’d get there!

So after packing the toddler off to his grandmother and getting ready we headed off to the hospital. They took me right up to the Labor and Delivery floor where a very nice nurse hooked me first to a fetal monitor and then to a heart monitor for me.  I answered lots of questions, saw a Dr. who listed to my lungs again, among other things, had bloodwork done and was given a liter of fluids.  Since my temp started coming down and the baby seemed fine they were basically ready to send me home once the bloodwork was back.  They did offer to do a chest x-ray just to rule out any possibility of Pneumonia but we decided it probably really wasn’t necessary – even the Dr said it was just a small chance since my lungs sounded clear .  . . all in all we were at the hospital about 3.5 hours.  Not how I had pictured spending my birthday!

By about 6 last night my fever started coming back so I too more tylenol and by 10 last night the little guy was waking up with chills so he now has it too – what ever it is.  We’re keeping and eye on things and if I get worse we’re to call the Dr again but for now I’m suppose to rest and drink plenty of fluids etc.

The real kicker is I didn’t even feel well enough to knit at all! That is when Dom knows I’m really sick – when I just sit there and I don’t even knit for hours on end!

off to get another glass of water . . .

Monday Fun

This moring was another Drs apt.  They are coming faster and faster as we near the end of this . . .

Everything seems fine.  I’m growing right on schedule with the belly measuring out at the 30 cm it should be at 30 weeks.  I didn’t gain any weight in the past 3 weeks, but since I gained double last visit (4 lbs in 2 weeks, yikes!) and I’m otherwise growing normally the Dr said that is fine.  That means I’m still up 20 lbs from the prebaby start weight, which can seem like not all that much or a ton depending on how you look at it!

After I left the Drs, and since I was totally alone for the appointment this time, I decided to take a brief detour (afterall I was in the neighborhood) and head over to Lady Grace and finally be measured for new bras! That is one of the fun parts of being pregnant – all your sizes – from the shoes up are likely to change! So it turns out that I was wearing the wrong size and type of bra and after being measured and fitted by the very nice lady who works there I can say for the first time in I can’t remember how long I have underthings that both fit and are comfortable.  What a difference!

Not only do I know what size to get – but that some companies run either larger or smaller and how to tell if the silly things fits properly.  Now I just have to plan to go back in a few months, after the baby is born and do it over again – ’cause, you guessed it, delivery will change the size yet again!

The knitting hasn’t changed.  I’m basically down to baby stuff and some socks and mittens but I wasn’t feeling well last night so I didn’t really do any and I don’t know yet if I have a sitter for tonight to go to knitting group but we’ll see what the afternoon brings . . .

Alrighty, enough playing “hookie” and back to the paperwork I’m suppose to be getting done right now!

Nesting

We “offically” have 10 weeks until little Caterina is due, but since the Dr is likely to induce a week early (like last time) that means 9 weeks to go until our little girl will be here!

 YIKES!

9 weeks isn’t very long!

The past week or two, since I started feeling better on the iron supplement I think, I’ve been getting nesting urges.  Some of it is kinda subtle and a lot of it isn’t .  Its kinda strange really, getting this overwhelming urge to declutter, to make space, to organize thing . . . the strangest thing is that I’ve actually removed most of the yarn and fiber stuff – started projects, planned projects, extra skeins etc all out to the storage space with the rest of the stash.  I’ve “hybernated” most of the things that were already started, probably until late this year or perhaps even next year depending on how things are going.  I’ve also been unable to get “into” working on the Fair Isle sweater so that too is being put aside until later in the year.  Maybe that will be the fall knitting project?

Dom is, as I type this, putting together a bureau for the baby’s clothes – 1/2 of which are in the washing machine right this minute.  Yes, I know its early still but I have the urge to wash and sort and fold cute little girly things . . . . hey, at least I’m not ironing the cloth diapers like I did last time (only because I learned that they don’t work as well with the wrinkles out :) )  I’m hoping that fussing over the clothes will keep me busy for a bit . . . I’d like to wait another month or so before we bring the crib in and set it up . . . though I want to give the little guy time to get used to seeing it before his sister arrives.

Speaking of the little guy, I got him a doll yesterday.  Just a little 17¡í baby doll which we are pretending is the baby on and off throughout the day.  So far he’s been very caring and kind to it, when he isn’t leaving it in the middle of the floor.  I’m hoping it will help with the transistion to the real thing . . .

okay, off to put baby things in the dryer and put the next batch in the wash!
