Quick catch up

The baby shower for DH’s nephew’s new baby was yesterday. It went quite well, though DS was a bit of a pill. He hadn’t had a nap and was a bit over-tired . . . combined with a new place to explore and lots of Nonnas to show off for . . . . you get the idea.

The sweater was a hit; several comments on the tiny gauge (8 st/inch on sz 1) and how small the sweater itself is (preemie size) but it was no where near as impressive as the box MIL put together. She had a huge blanket, 2 sweaters and 2 pairs of booties! And all were beautiful. She actually knit them from the yarn I had bought to do a blanket for the same baby. It was acyllic and I just couldn’t stand trying to knit with it. Made my fingers twitchy! So I gave it to her knowing it would be put to good use and it sure was! She traded one of the colors for more white but wound up with some very nice stuff for the little guy.

All in all, he got 5 hand stitched blankets and several others that were bought (including two fleece from us) so I think I’m going to make him something else as a “Welcome Home” gift, perhaps a bunny? I’m going to finish the blanket I started but put it away for another little one.

We also went to see Gram today. DS knows which room is her’s and goes right to the door now. She actually looks great. Her lungs have cleared and they were able to take her off the oxygen which means she can move around easier and the staff where she is can now wheel her down to the cafe for lunch (they aren’t allowed to change her from the big ox machine to the portable for some reason . . .) but in talking with my Cousin I learned that her kidneys are in terrible shape and are failing regardless of how well she appears. It is only a matter of time, just they don’t know how much time that will be. At least she doesn’t seem to be in any pain and is in good spirits. Hospice comes every day now so she has extra attention which is helping. And my cousin from Cali has stayed and will be here for the duration. I’m going to try to go see her again later in the week . . .

I’ve got a bit of a headache so I’m going to lie down for a bit before its time to start dinner . . .
