Update: I gave M the three options for the sweater…

Update: I gave M the three options for the sweater neckline and, bless her, she chose the “do nothing, option. I mentioned that meant I would be starting the baby sweater today and she suggested that I at least pick open the fingers on the gloves that need finishing first. Well, okay, she let me off easy on the other project so sure, I can do that. . . . turns out I probably should have waited. I must have fixed them already because after I had them open DH came home and it turns out that with the exception of what I unraveled, the one that was done already fits him. Okay, so that will be a quick fix and I just need to finish the hand and do fingers for the second one and he will be all set.

That means I’m up to 4 UFOs that have become FOs. I should have pictures to load tomorrow sometime . . . and I’ve started the baby sweater. I’m a couple of inches into the back so far. I worked on it while sitting in the yard during toddler play time.

He was having a ball, playing in his car, chasing the dog and a neighbors cat that braved the yard (seemed more afraid of baby than dog) and collecting acorns and rocks to give to Mommy. I got cold long before he did and when I finally couldn’t take it anymore we came in, after about 40 min outside. Not too bad for January!

Okay, off to work on the sweater before its time to start dinner.

Don’t hate me because I . . . . ‘ve finished anot…

Don’t hate me because I . . . .

‘ve finished another UFO!!!! Okay, so this was another super easy one. Yesterday I finished the Bonus Baby Socks and he even wore them. The Dark Blue Baby Socks don’t fit, too small . . . and the Bonus pair just barely fit so next pair needs to be even bigger . . . have to see if I can find my notes (did I take any?) to see what that actually means.

So picture this: I’m sitting out in the back yard. There is a gentle breeze blowing some leaves around and the little one is running around, chasing the dog and playing with his big toy car. I’m sitting in a patio chair in the middle of the yard, keeping an eye on him and catching some sun while I knit on his socks. Doesn’t really sound so unusual does it. Okay, now add the fact that its JANUARY in New England and 45 degrees out! Very warm for January. Not so warm for knitting baby socks on size 0 needles with chilly fingers. That was how we spent about an hour yesterday afternoon.

Actually, he was really cute. I had put a hat on him and he kept trying to take it off (typical boy) so I finally told him if he didn’t leave it on I was going to take him back inside. Well, he wasn’t having that, he loves being out and doesn’t really care what the weather is so long as he’s outside. So he climbed into his little car and shut the door. He reaches up, pulls the hat off his head and sticks his arm out the window and throws the hat on the ground. I said, that’s it mister, if You don’t put that hat back on I’m going take you in the house. He actually opened the car door, reached out and picked up the hat and crammed it back on his head with a huff! It was very cute. And you can’t tell me he doesn’t understand what I’m saying to him, doesn’t matter that he’s only 18 months, he does get it.

Back to knitting. I made a careful examination of the Lavold sweater, its a Liv by the way . . . so I thought since its too big and I had knit it while I was preggers 2 years ago perhaps I had knit a larger size? Nope, I knit the right size, at least according to my notes of how many stitches I had cast on. And I must have done a gauge swatch at the beginning because in my notes I have listed using the smaller size needles, 3 & 5 instead of 4 & 6 . . . but when I actually checked the gauge on the sweater it works out to 18 st per inch instead of 22. Guess that explains the size difference, duh!

And the piece I thought just wasn’t done is actually not done correctly. I must have misunderstood the directions or something and now I’m not sure how smoothly I can fix it. Guess I’ll call M to see which she’d prefer, that I leave it as is, that I crochet a round on the back neck or that I try to pick up the stitches form where they are sewn in and go from there . . . personally, I think the crochet will look the neatest, but it won’t be “true to pattern” so I’ll leave it up to her.

The boys are out running errands so I’m going to see if I can get a few things done while they are gone. I’ll post a picture of the finished socks later if I can get to it.
