Good Morning!
This half-awake little smile is what greets me in the morning now! Isn’t it wonderful! Makes my day every time.
Baby stuff first, then knitting and spinning updates.
Our little boy seems to be entering what the book I have calles “pre-teething”. He’s in no real danger of getting teeth soon, but his gums were sure hurting him last night!
I wound up leaving him with MIL and running to the store in her car for baby orajel and teething rings. Poor little guy. He was hurting so much he didn’t even feel like eating most of the evening, and as you can probably tell from the photo, he’s ususally a pretty good eater. When he doesn’t want to eat, you know something just isn’t right. We finally got him feeling better enough to nurse and go to sleep sometime around midnight last night. He’s still asleep now and I’m inclined to leave him until he wakes on his own. Poor baby.
Other than that, he’s doing very well. Starting to babble at us and loves to smile and laugh. He’s even starting to get into a bit of a routine. He tends to take about 3 naps (though lately only for 15 min at a time it seems) and then goes to be for the night around 7. He does wake up and expect a bit of play time when DH comes home from work in the late evening, but generally after some kisses and cuddles I can nurse him back down to sleep. I know its a bad habit to let them get into but they both seem to really need that few minutes together at the end of the day. I just have a feeling I’ll regret setting up this situation by the time he’s about 2 or so. Ya know?
Knitting/Spinning Content
I’ve finished the sweater I had started for myself. I started sewing it together but realized I don’t like the way my seaming is coming out. Time to find someone to give me a few lessons in finishing techniques. The sweater is made from Plymouth Encore in a Rose pink color. Not my usual yarn choice but I’m thinking machine washable could be a good thing right now
I used the Ann Budd sweater book, chose a Set-in Sleeve style sweater with a V-neck and added a lace edge at the bottom. The rest of the sweater is a straight Stockinette stitch and I knit it long, around a tunic-length. Once I can get it put together I’ll post a picture of it.
I’m now working on a sweater for the baby. Its the ribbed Guernsey from one of the Deb Bliss baby books, I forget the exact title at the moment. They show it in Maroon, I’m doing it in the Baby Cashmere from Elann. I decided to knit both the front and back at the same time since they are worked the same until you reach the neck on the front. That way the change from Stockinette to the ribbing is in the same spot on both halves of the sweater. I’ve got a few more inches of ribbing to go before the neck shaping but its moving along nicely this way.
I had been thinking that since he’s so little a sweater for him couldn’t take all that long, right? Then, as I was casting on the 88 stitches per piece, I realized that is more stitches than the front or back of my sweater called for! Its not really that the sweaters for him are less work, I’m just knitting “to scale”. Same numer of stitches but smaller yarn and needles. Boy did that realization put things into perspective for me!
I’ve also been doing a little bit of fiber stuff. But I’ll have to tell you about that later, time to go feed the little guy! Have a great day, I’ll be back when I can.
