Potential Fullfilled!
What a great weekend. Fun and productive, with great weather too!
Friday I got some spinning done. Finished spinning and plied a skein of roving that I had dyed myself last fall. Its actually kind of funny, looking at the finished roving I really wasn’t sure I was going to like the yarn, but then, I had never spun and plled to completion something I had dyed myself. Funky as the roving looked the yarn is wonderful, I totally love it. And I’m using it for what I had planned it for when I dyed it. A pair of socks. Saturday I knit up a gauge swatch with everything from size 3 needles down to size 0 to see which I liked best. The size 0 won, of course, and I cast on the first sock last night . . .
I also spun up a partial skein that was left over from winding off the full skeins of the new rovings when they came in. Its some of the dark grey that I had gotten and a bit course but could be fun to play with. One advantage is that it spins really easily; I was able to spin about 3 onces in just a couple of hours. So two new skeins of yarn in the stash . . . .
Saturday we met with friends for breakfast (had some very yummy french toast) and then the boys went to do their thing while we girls were off to the Antique stores!!! Such fun and what a great day for a drive in the country! At our first stop I found wooden sock blockers, in DH’s size! And an old, most likely hand made Hackle!!! Not the kind of thing you run across every day!!
After a break for bagles and coffee we resumed the hunt at another store . . . where I found a stick shuttle for my (yet to be used) loom, a hand carder still in serviceable condition, an old kniddy knoddy, a couple of heddle hooks and a drop spindle!!! Quite a day for fiber stuff!
Then after a quick stop at the craft store so L could restock some things we were off to meet the boys for dinner. We went to one of our favorite local Italian Restaurants and had a nice meal. After stopping at our house to pick up their dog who had spent the day having puppy play group with our dog, DH drove them home (they don’t have or generally need a car where they live). That was when I got to work on my gauge swatch . . .
Sunday we had breakfast together before DH was off to work a double and after a call to M to report Saturday’s finds, I went to work on some spring cleaning. I spent 9 hours turning about 1/2 the house upside down, literally! I not only cleaned every surface in our bedroom, but rearranged the furniture while I was at it! The bunnys came in to trash the kitcen for me . . . and once I had finished the living room I tossed them back out so I could clean the kitchen, which looks like someone had been having a party in it! Buns can sure make a mess!
I finished all the work in time to watch the last 3 hours of the Oscars! Go LOTR!!!!
Now that is about as close to a perfect weekend as I’ve seen in a while! I just wish I had a camera so I could show you my new toys. I’m going to make a list of photos to take so once I have the camera I can show you all the things I’ve only been able to describe lately . . . . some day!
