Happy Monday!

Yikes! Just a few more days to get the presents done? Are you finished with your holiday knitting yet? I have a few pairs of mittens, a shawl, a scarf and a hat to go. Fortunately, we are stretching things out into next week so it isn’t all due by Thursday! I would like to have all the gifts (with the notable exception of Mom’s shawl) finished by the first week in January. That would be big progress over last year! ;)

Oh, and since the cat is out of the bag, I can finally mention that I’ve been working on a sweater for DH. I started spinning on July 1st. and rather than waiting until all the yarn was done, I started knitting it as well. Trouble was I changed my mind a couple of times about how I wanted to construct this sweater and then decided I wasn’t sure if I had the size right. Yesterday I took it out and showed it to him. As luck would have it, it was a good thing I did. What I had done was about 8 inches too big around!

Now I’m working on reknitting it, with yet more design changes, and doing it following Barbara Walker’s suggestions for a classic Raglan, top down. I’ve finished the yoke last night and waited for him to come home so he could try it on. It fits! So now I’m going to begin the sleeves. We are talking about adding some sort of cabling or design to the ribbing on the waistband, cuffs and neckband. In order to make that work out better I’m probably going to spin some smaller yarn and add to the number of stitches at each edge to give me a bit more room in the number of stitches and rows to make a design with . . . and at least now that he knows about it I can have him try it on as I go so there is a much greater chance that it will fit! ; ) By the way, for those who didn’t know, this will be the first adult sweater I’ve done!

With a bit of luck I might finish his sweater by the end of the year!
